One volunteer who made a significant impact on the space was Jackie Hausler of Haus2Home (Hausler, a Western New York based blogger, interior decorator and sustainability advocate, put together all of the room designs. From our persistent efforts the town of Grand Island and its neighboring communities now can respond to the public health crisis of domestic violence in an accommodating, secure, accessible, beautiful, and welcoming space.” Each and every gesture, collectively helped to achieve our mission to provide an avenue of hope to those in abusive relationships. “Some may have attended a public awareness meeting, help put furniture together, cleaned up after construction, or made a sizable donation. “The power of the human connection was evident in the community response,” said Karen Panzarella-Brodie, the FJC Board member and Grand Island resident, who led the volunteer efforts to bring the site to fruition. More than 120 volunteers participated in the fundraising and preparation of the space, from Trinity Church as well as the Grand Island community. Fundraising efforts kicked off in 2018 and continued throughout construction in 20. The project was completed thanks to generous donations from private donors and local sponsors. Pastor Slough continued, “I know in my heart that this outreach will help people, who have been broken down emotionally and physically, will regain the truth of how much they matter and deserve to be treated as such.” “When I was first approached about releasing our second parsonage to the FJC to support their mission and work, my first thought was, ‘Why wouldn’t Trinity UMC-Grand Island want to support such a gift and resource to our community?’ As a church, we are blessed to be able to provide this space as a resource and blessing on the Island and throughout Erie County, NY.” Pastor Kevin Slough of Trinity UMC recalls the moment that FJC and the church began partnership discussions. This location is the fourth for the FJC, with a main office in Buffalo, and satellite locations in Amherst and Orchard Park. The new satellite will be housed in a home owned by the church, previously used as a secondary parsonage for the Youth Pastor. The project continues a partnership between the Family Justice Center and Trinity United Methodist Church of Grand Island (Trinity UMC). The Family Justice Center of Erie County (FJC) cut the ribbon on a new satellite location in Grand Island, NY on Saturday, June 12.
